Skin Concerns? Firmness.

Let’s talk about firmness. Let’s talk about a 20-year-old woman’s plump skin and what gives it the firmness and elasticity we start visibly lacking in our early forties.

The place to be? Dermis.

Dermis is the skin's middle layer and has numerous essential functions. It makes us feel touch and temperature, produces sweat, nurtures hair follicles… What else? The function we are interested in the most - the skin’s support structure is built here. Dermis is where the body synthesizes collagen and elastin and where our skin’s firmness and elasticity come from.

Our 20-year-old has an abundance of both collagen and elastin. Her skin has not yet suffered significant photodamage, she has not yet been exposed to the amounts of toxins and pollutants she will have been by the age of 40. From the age of 20 on, though, her skin will produce about 1% less collagen every year.

So, is there anything we can do for an effective collagen synthesis boost once we need it? Yes, there is!

Before we get to the how-to, let’s point out the how-not-to, the one thing that will not have any effect at all: it’s simply impossible to increase collagen levels by outer application - the collagen molecule is too large to penetrate to the dermis.

Vitamin C, on the other hand, does affect the deep layers of skin when applied onto its surface and is one of the nutrients that are critical for a natural collagen synthesis. The presence of numerous essential minerals is also nothing but substantial for the process to keep running smoothly.

We have got to the point where the solution is obvious – minerals are AHAVA’s specialty! Our scientific team has added potent botanical extracts rich in antioxidants and vitamins and the puzzle of how to deliver all the nutrients necessary for collagen synthesis where they are needed the most is solved!

EXTREME ComplexTM  is AHAVA's patented formula and the key compound in our EXTREME collection that addresses, among other skin concerns, lessened firmness.
