Hyaluronic Acid, the Ultimate Water-Binder

Who hasn’t heard of hyaluronic acid? It has become famous as the medical magic that can maintain and even restore the youthful volume of any face. How accurate is this image? Let’s take a closer look.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) sits tight at the base of your epidermis, the thinnest topmost layer of your skin. Imagine it as a structure of two simple sugars binding over 1000 times its own weight in water, forming a soft layer of cushioning that gives your skin its smooth suppleness. Apart from making your skin look youthfully plump, it also acts as an efficient nutrition passage from the deeper skin layers to the epidermis.

As we biologically age and our skin is cumulatively exposed to more UV rays with each passing year, the amount of hyaluronic acid produced by our bodies slowly decreases. What do we suffer as a consequence? The epidermis gets a lower supply of moisture and nutrients, the cushion layer thins, and we start seeing changes in the mirror - our skin loses its plumpness and glow, tends to look and feel dry, and our lines and wrinkles become deeper.

So, how do we keep the natural magic of our hyaluronic acid? How do we sustain the moisture? We protect it while we have it, we add it once we get low on it.

The molecules of human HA are very large. So large, in fact, they cannot penetrate the skin when applied on its surface. To solve this, our scientists dedicated years of research to developing an effective formula that would deliver the results that naturally produced hyaluronic acid delivers.
Their final formulation? It’s based on 3 ingredients: Osmoter and two types of HA with different molecular weights.

Osmoter is an ingredient proprietary to AHAVA, made of an exceptionally potent Dead Sea extract that brings moisture to the epidermis from within the body (more about it here) and increases the natural synthesis - by our body - of hyaluronic acid by as much as 20%!

Hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid, a low molecular weight HA derived from wheat, penetrates into the epidermis. Sodium hyaluronate, a high molecular weight HA, is identical to skin’s natural hyaluronic acid and stays close to the skin's surface. With their powerful water-binding ability, they prevent your skin from losing its internal moisture and keep it locked inside.

Conclusions? It is no magic. But having a two-direction effect, both on the inside & on the outside, AHAVA's hyaluronic acid products very successfully boost the moisture levels of your skin, keep it plump, and make it smooth, supple, and radiant as ever!

HOT TIP: Use the full collection as prevention for pre-aging skin, or add to an anti-aging skincare routine to enhance efficacy.
